was born in Akropong, Ghana. His father was a paramount chief. Like many young people living in Akropong, he attended the Presbyterian primary school there. In 1957 Darko began to learn how to play the guitar from a Canadian biology teacher. Darko’s father wanted his son to become a lawyer. However, Darko had other ideas. He moved from home, and agreed to live with his uncle Boafo. Darko started his professional music career in 1969 when he joined Gaby Nick Valdo s Soul Avengers Darko loved the innovative guitar playing of American rock musician Jimi Hendrix Despite Darko s youth other musicians sought him out In the early 1970s he played in the Soul Believers a band that specialized in playing covers of Hendrix Booker T and the MGs Santana and other Western rock groups He soon joined the Blue Monks This short lived band also featured singer Pat ...
