was born on 26 August 1935 in the city of Quilmes, Buenos Aires. He distinguished himself on the backline as a strong marking defender, without ever being violent, owing to his refined technique and his admirably calm nature. His father, Faustino Ramos Delgado, came to Argentina from São Vicente, the second-most populous island of Cape Verde, when he was only nine years old. Cape Verde was a Portuguese colony until 5 July 1975, and for this reason those who emigrated from there were considered Portuguese citizens.
