Whether advocating for social justice or creating iconic black art, whether inaugurating the Harlem Renaissance or black feminist thought, LGBTQ African Americans have always stood at the forefront of radical aesthetics and politics. Spanning the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, these extraordinary artists and activists move us with their talent and courage and demand us to realize a more just world.
