The September update to the Oxford African American Studies Center has published 14 new entries, Underground Railroad operatives Charles and Keziah Grier, federal judge Deborah Batts and U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

Cesar Chelor (1720 – 1784), Woodworker and toolmaker

Joseph Samuel Dunning (1915 – 1991), the first Black aeronautical engineer in the United States, and first black vice president of a major U.S. aerospace company

Thelma Thurston Gorham (1913 – 1992), Teacher, journalist and college professor

Charles (1782 – 1872) and Keizah Grier (1800 – 1876), a free African American pioneering couple in antebellum Indiana
