According the Family Search genealogy website, an Augustus Law, Jr. is listed in the 1900 Census for Cains Township in Florence County with a birth year around 1879, with ten siblings and his parents. Finally, a “Delayed Birth Certificate” produced in 1950 attested to his birth on 12 May 1876. His parents were part of the post-emancipation generation of southern Black landowners who acquired approximately 15 million acres to farm after the Civil War.
